Homeless Outreach – May 7th

This month’s homeless outreach was a lesson in listening for me on a couple levels. I had been thinking about taking my guitar down with us and just playing some songs when we served but I always changed my mind the morning of the outreach. This Sunday I finally grabbed it and threw it in the truck and picked 5 song that I wanted play.

When I got to church before the outreach, the worship team played 3 of the five songs I had picked. I was literally laughing with each song they played on my list. But later at the outreach, as soon as we got set up to serve and people started coming, I talked myself out of getting my guitar out. Instead, I opted to walk around and pick up the trash that was laying around.

Then right near the end of our outreach time, I finally listened and got out my guitar and started playing. I am so glad I did. I can’t prove it but I believe with all my heart that because I FINALLY listened, God brought a man, Donald, over to me. He told us “Thank you” for what we do. He continued to explain that he had woken up this morning and wanted to commit suicide and he was planning on going through with it. But when he walked on the lot where we had set up, he said that his heart felt love. As he talked with the people in the group, he knew that someone loved him and that he didn’t want to end it all anymore. He wanted us to pray for him (which we did) and get him in touch with someone to talk to if those thoughts came back (which we did). Please pray for Donald.

We served 98 meals and a minivan full of snack bags and fresh fruit. The moral of this report is if you feel God is telling you to do something, DO IT NOW DON’T MAKE EXCUSES! I have had a lot of people tell me they want to come out with us, so I want to say now is the time we will be going June 4th. Come with us.
